Strawberry Fields Farm was founded in 1965 by Ray \u201cDoc\u201c Shulman and his wife Ilene Shulman. They had searched for more than two years before they found this land and declared \u201cThis is it!\u201d  Over 50 years later, the lush pastures, verdant woodlands and stunning natural vistas have not changed a bit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family History <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The farm has been owned and operated by the Shulman family since 1965, and is now managed by Ray & Ilene\u2019s son-in-law Steve Colwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Animals <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strawberry Fields Farm is known as “The home of Virginia\u2019s most contented cattle,\u201c but over the years it has also hosted a whole menagerie of horses, chickens and other barnyard friends. Originally, Doc Shulman originally raised exclusively Black Angus cattle. More recently the Farm\u2019s herd has diversified to include a variety of breeds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grass fed, free range cattle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numerous studies have shown the benefits of grass fed cattle for the environment, the cattle\u2019s health and, ultimately, beef eaters! Strawberry Fields Farm herd has over 80 acres of lush, fresh grass for our small herd to munch on. The cattle are rotated regularly to different fields to insure they never overgraze a pasture. In the winter, they are fed hay gathered from our own fields and from some of our neighboring farms on Gooney Manor Loop (Yes, that really is the name of our road!). Our cattle are never treated with hormones, penned in or fed anything other than local food and some mineral supplements to keep them heathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No noise + lots of space + abundant food and water = no stress<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because we are located on a loop road with virtually no through traffic far from any towns, Strawberry Fields Farm is about as peaceful as it gets. Numerous scientific studies by agronomists have shown that cattle thrive where they have plenty of room and are not subjected to noise, overcrowding or other sources of stress. Like we said\u2026. \u201ccontented cattle\u201d \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n
